Publix
Grocery Ordering and Savings App

From shopping list to checkout.
The challenge
Publix is one of the largest employee-owned supermarket chains in the United States, with more than a thousand stores across the Southeast. Its app is the hub for ordering, savings, meal planning, and customer engagement, but some paths left shoppers stuck. People would build a shopping list in the app and then find there was no way to submit it for purchase.
The build
Native iOS and Android apps built around a clear shopping journey. New shoppers get short modals and toast messages that explain how to add to a list, and clear next steps for delivery, curbside pickup, or in-store pickup.
The apps include in-store pickup with order history and reorder, digital coupons and weekly ads, a wallet for digital gift cards and e-receipts, online payment, and catering add-ons with an in-store digital cake book. Shockoe designed and built the apps and continues to support them.
The result
More than 8 million people use the app, and it holds a rating of 4.8 stars or higher on both the iOS and Android app stores.
- 8M+Mobile app users
- 4.8+Star rating on both the iOS and Android app stores

Questions about this project
What does the Publix app do?
It is the hub for shopping with Publix: shoppers build lists, order online for delivery, curbside pickup, or in-store pickup, clip digital coupons, browse the weekly ad, pay, and review past orders.
What did Shockoe change for first-time shoppers?
Shoppers could build a shopping list without a clear way to turn it into an order. Short modals and toast messages now explain how to add to a list, and the next steps for delivery, curbside, or in-store pickup are clear, so shoppers keep going instead of giving up.
Can shoppers reorder past purchases?
Yes. Order history keeps submitted orders in one place, and a shopper can reorder all the items in a past in-store pickup order in a tap.
How many people use the app?
More than 8 million people use the Publix app, and it holds a rating of 4.8 stars or higher on both the iOS and Android app stores.
