Driver and Carrier Apps

Discovery, UX design, iOS and Android app development, and API integration
A driver's hand holding a phone with the driver app open to a load in transit, with a truck cab and a sunset road behind.

Role-based apps that keep freight moving.

The challenge

A leading transportation and logistics company relied on third-party mobile technology that did not fit how its people work. It carried features drivers did not need and was hard to customize, so tailoring workflows for company drivers, contracted carriers and shippers was slow and impractical.

The build

Shockoe rebuilt the company's mobile tools as native iOS and Android apps, working alongside the client's own teams from discovery through design, development and deployment.

The driver app puts a driver's day in one place: current and upcoming loads with stops and maps, arrival time updates and reroutes, mobile signatures, photos and documents, messages, and maintenance requests. A carrier app helps contracted carriers find and track loads and review settlements, and shippers can follow their shipments.

The apps share one codebase with a theme for each, so every role sees what is relevant to it. They keep working offline and sync when a connection returns, refresh on their own, and run in English and Spanish.

The result

Each role sees only what matters to its day, which is designed to reduce friction and give drivers, carriers and shippers a clearer, real-time view of loads. The work has continued since, with strategy, design and development projects across HR, marketing and IT.

Questions about this project

What did Shockoe build for the company?

Native iOS and Android apps for three groups: a driver app for company and contracted drivers, a carrier app for finding and tracking loads, and a shipper app for following shipments. The apps are built from one shared codebase with a theme for each.

Why did the company need new apps?

It relied on third-party mobile technology that included features drivers did not need and was hard to customize. Tailoring workflows for drivers, carriers and shippers was slow and impractical.

What can a driver do in the app?

See current and upcoming loads with stops and maps, update an arrival time or reroute, capture signatures, photos and documents, read messages, and request maintenance. The app runs in English and Spanish.

Do the apps work without a connection?

Yes. The apps keep working offline and sync when a connection returns, and they refresh on their own, so drivers are not left waiting on a signal.
