UX and UI design, iOS and Android app development, secure sign-on integration, and ongoing support
A hand holding a phone with an expense report and Approve and Send back buttons, a traveler at an airport gate behind.

Approve expenses from anywhere, with the receipt in hand.

The challenge

Managers at a leading financial services company had to approve employee expense reports, but reviewing receipts and details usually meant sitting at a desk. Reports waited, reimbursements slowed, and feedback to employees was inconsistent when a report needed to change.

The build

A mobile app for managers on iPhone, iPad and Android. It lists the reports awaiting approval, opens each one with its line items and receipts, and lets the manager approve it in one tap or send it back with a preset reason and a note. It signs in through the company's secure single sign-on, blocks a second approval of the same report, and was kept current with each new operating system release.

The result

The app is designed to let managers clear approvals between meetings and while traveling, so reimbursements move faster and fewer reports stall waiting for a desk. Preset send-back reasons keep feedback consistent and help employees fix a report in one pass.

Questions about this project

What is the Expense Approval app?

It is a mobile app Shockoe built for a leading financial services company's managers to review and approve employee expense reports. A manager can see the report, read the receipts, and approve it or send it back.

How does a manager send a report back?

They choose a preset reason, such as a missing receipt or a wrong category, and can add a note. If they choose Other, a note is required, so the employee always knows what to fix.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone, iPad and Android. The app uses the company's secure sign-on, and Shockoe kept it current as new operating system versions were released.

Does it prevent approving a report twice?

Yes. A report that has already been approved is flagged, so a manager cannot approve it again by mistake.
