Dominion Energy
Work Observation System

Safety observations, captured anywhere.
The challenge
Supervisors and field teams record safety observations on site, often with no connection. The existing tool was a dense desktop form, which made it slow to log what they saw and hard to review and report on it.
The build
A progressive web app that works on desktop, tablet and phone and keeps working offline. It replaces the desktop form with guided observation cards and adds company single sign-on, role-based permissions, automated email alerts, approval workflows and a full admin portal. Observation data is shared automatically with the client's analytics platform for reporting.
The result
The platform supports 4,500+ users, and team leaders can update role hierarchies themselves. Observations are captured on site, reviewed and acted on, and flow into reporting without being entered twice.
- 4,500+Employees using the platform

Questions about this project
What is the Work Observation System?
It is Dominion Energy's app for recording safety observations. Employees and supervisors log what they see on site, review it and send it into reporting from desktop, tablet or phone.
What did Shockoe build for Dominion Energy?
Shockoe designed and built a progressive web app with offline use, company single sign-on, role-based permissions, automated alerts, approval workflows and an admin portal.
How does it work offline?
Observations are saved on the device when there is no connection, so teams in the field can keep recording and the data syncs when they are back online.
Build, Buy, or Connect? Modern Logistics Strategy
Every executive room hits the same impasse on digital transformation. Someone draws two columns on the whiteboard, build and buy, and misses the third option.
More Software Won't Fix This
Your associate is on two devices: one shows the order, the other the inventory. They don't talk, so she reconciles them at the curb while the customer waits.
Your Systems Are Running. Your Operation Isn't.
Your call volume is high and your platforms can tell you how many calls came in, but not why.
