With over 180 Fast & Fresh stores, Hy-Vee is a leader in the convenience store space, offering customers quick access to fresh foods on the go. The Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh team aimed to create a comprehensive digital solution that would simplify customers’ lives by offering one-stop convenience and meal solutions for the whole family. Their goal was to provide a unified platform that seamlessly integrated food ordering, gas price monitoring, and loyalty rewards, making daily errands more convenient and accessible. The challenge was to develop an app that could meet the evolving needs of busy families while maintaining a user-friendly interface and personalized experience.

One-stop convenience with a one-stop app.
Shockoe partnered with Hy-Vee to develop the Fast & Fresh app, streamlining multiple services into a single platform. The app integrates food ordering, location searching—by gas prices, amenities, and proximity—and loyalty rewards, providing a one-stop digital hub for busy families on the go. Built with a scalable microservices architecture, the app is flexible and ready for future integrations and growth. Tools like Deliverect for seamless order management and Sanity for dynamic content updates ensure that users receive a real-time, personalized experience, with additional options for curbside and in-store pickup.
Through collaboration with Deliverect, the app evolved to include a native food ordering system. Customers can access full menus by location, including visibility into product availability based on time of day, store hours, and pickup options. Users can make mobile orders from their preferred store location or a location nearest them, selecting either immediate or future pickup. Once an order is placed, it can be tracked within the app via real-time status updates—or through push notifications. With curbside delivery options, users can enter and save their vehicle information to receive their order without leaving their car. This enhancement offered customers a true reflection of Fast & Fresh’s convenience and quality.
Building on Fast & Fresh’s existing loyalty program, Shockoe designed features that enabled customers to access and benefit from rewards. Incentives included: free purchase with loyalty sig-up, BOGO deals on menu items, and discounted fuel prices, all of which boosted customer engagement. Deals were made visible to customers based on time of day and shopping patterns, creating a more personalized experience. With this integrated enhancement, customers were offered a true reflection of Fast & Fresh’s convenience and quality.
