Despite their loyal fanbase, the Client’s mobile app wasn’t meeting fan needs. Slow updates, app crashes, and a lack of functionality left fans more frustrated than a golfer in a sand trap. To better meet the needs of players, sponsors, and fans, the Client knew it needed a game-changing redesign to stand out and drive excitement. Doing so meant finding an agile, experienced partner who understood the golf culture, the Client’s brand, and what it takes to reignite a global fan base.

THE SOLUTION
It was time for the Client to take a mulligan on their mobile app and re-invent it with the right partner.
After completing a robust discovery phase and aligning on visual style, the Shockoe team set to work on the updated mobile fan experience. The new app includes visual elements—highlights reel and videos—to engage users upon first opening the app. From there, avid fans can follow their favorite players, keeping up with their stats, latest news, and standings.
With the Tourcast feature, fans can navigate a 3D map of the course, tracking player shots at each hole.
To offer the same experience fans can expect from live-streaming apps like ESPN, the new app displays scores updates in near real-time, averaging 12 seconds to update against live play.
Geofencing provides visibility into concession locations, as well as access to players locations along the course. Fans can also purchase tickets to upcoming events, and explore events nearby.
Since deployment, the Client’s app has seen incredible engagement and growth with positive feedback from both players and fans. Live event engagement is up 50% YoY since launch, and on event weekends the app sees almost 1 million fans interact with it, with a daily app usage of nearly 700,000.
Measurable impact like this highlights the importance of understanding user’s needs and creating engaging experiences that exceed expectations.
