What we did

Proof of concept, dashboard design, hardware and software setup, and ongoing support

*A hand tapping a tablet that shows four lab camera views, each overlaid with a heat map of where visitors spend time.*

## See how visitors use a space, without seeing who they are.

### The challenge

Altria's Innovation Lab welcomes visitors and wanted to understand how they move through the space and where they spend time, without recording who they are or sending video outside the building.

### The build

Shockoe started with a proof of concept: four cameras and a private, client-controlled app that turned each camera angle into a heat map of where visitors spent time, shown in one-hour intervals with a visitor count.

It then built the production system: 14 ceiling-mounted cameras covering the full lab, a live view with facial blur, heat maps and dwell time, and a closed-circuit network with no internet connection. Shockoe designed the dashboard, set up the hardware and software with specialist partners and supported the lab after launch.

## The result

The lab has a low-profile, closed-circuit system designed to show which areas draw visitors and how long they stay, so the team can evaluate demos and layouts from aggregate data. Faces are blurred and nothing leaves the building.

* 14 Cameras covering the full lab

## Project images

* *A tablet dashboard titled Consumer Behavior Insights with a visitor heat map and summary figures.*
* *A tablet dashboard showing two camera views side by side, each with a heat map and summary figures.*
* *A tablet dashboard with a date picker and a heat map laid over a view of the lab.*
* *A tablet dashboard showing one camera view with a heat map over an aisle of shelves.*

## Questions about this project

### What is the Innovation Lab visitor analytics system?

It is a camera system in Altria's Innovation Lab that shows where visitors spend time. It produces heat maps, dwell time and visitor counts from the lab's cameras.

### What did Shockoe build for Altria?

Shockoe built a four-camera proof of concept and then a production system with 14 cameras and a dashboard, set up the hardware and software with specialist partners and supported the lab after launch.

### How does it protect visitor privacy?

Faces are blurred, the data is aggregate and the network is closed circuit with no internet connection, so nothing leaves the building.
