How we reimagined the guest experience across app and web for Foxwoods Resort Casino after a brand refresh.

By Daniela Salazar, November 13, 2025 | 4 min read

The short answer

Shockoe rebuilt the Foxwoods guest experience as one connected system across its mobile app and website. A shared component framework carried the refreshed brand to both platforms, and the app brings stays, rewards, dining, shows, and wayfinding into one place. This article describes what we built, not measured results.

When a resort like Foxwoods wants to elevate its digital presence, the job is bigger than launching a new app or updating the website. It is about a connected guest experience across every screen.

That is what we set out to do at Shockoe. Foxwoods came to us with a clear goal: make the digital experience as polished and intuitive as the resort itself, and build it for modern guests.

## What was the challenge: a new brand and a new standard?

Foxwoods had just introduced a new brand identity, and it wanted its digital platforms to carry the same energy. The existing app served its purpose, but it did not fully deliver the elevated experience guests expect from a destination resort. The website needed to work harder as a companion to the app, not stand apart from it.

Our goals were to:

* Bring the new brand to life.
* Build an experience that works well across both app and web.
* Improve usability, performance, and design consistency.
* Support business goals such as more bookings, upgrades, and guest engagement.

## How did we build one experience for app and web?

We kicked off development with a shared framework designed to speed up both mobile and web delivery. That let the team focus on the custom logic and features specific to the Foxwoods guest journey. Here is what that approach included:

* A shared component system for consistent design and behavior across platforms.
* Native technologies that made integration with Foxwoods’ existing systems smoother.
* A multi-platform approach that supports one journey, whether a guest starts on the website or in the app.
* Targeted testing focused on the parts that matter most to the business, such as rewards, bookings, and guest services.

*Foxwoods rewards page designed for mobile and desktop, showing points and tier progress*

## How do you design a resort app that helps without overwhelming?

Foxwoods is more than a place to book a room. It is a destination with many choices, so the app and site had to guide guests without overloading them. We designed for:

* A bold, modern interface that reflects the updated brand.
* Flows that simplify decisions across rooms, upgrades, dining, and entertainment.
* Loyalty rewards and offers that are easy to reach.
* Navigation that stays friendly and consistent.

*Hands holding a phone showing the Foxwoods app My Stay screen with a current hotel booking*

According to our case study, the result is a mobile and web experience that brings hotel reservations, Foxwoods Rewards, dining, shows, and gaming access into one place. The home screen sorts the resort into clear categories for dining, play, stay, shows, and experiences, with wayfinding one tap away.

## What sits behind the scenes?

A shared framework and a scalable architecture also make life easier for the Foxwoods team, with less time spent on upkeep and more on new work. We cover the content side of the same project in [how a headless CMS powers the Foxwoods app](https://shockoe.com/insights/foxwoods-powering-a-premium-experience/).

## Why does this matter?

For us, this project was about creating a digital extension of the resort. When guests open the Foxwoods app or land on the website, they are stepping into the experience, and booking a stay or claiming a reward should feel thoughtful and straightforward.

Digital work like this is about aligning a brand’s whole digital ecosystem with the level of service guests expect on site. ## Frequently asked questions

### What was the challenge for the Foxwoods app and website?

Foxwoods had just introduced a new brand identity and wanted its digital platforms to match it. The existing app served its purpose but did not fully deliver the elevated experience guests expect, and the website needed to work as a companion to the app instead of a separate touchpoint.

### Why build the app and website on a shared framework?

A shared framework and component system speeds up delivery on both platforms and keeps design and behavior consistent. In our view, it also lets the team spend its time on the logic that is unique to the Foxwoods guest journey.

### What can guests do in the redesigned Foxwoods app?

Based on the Foxwoods case study, the app and web experience bring hotel reservations, Foxwoods Rewards, dining, shows, and gaming access together. Guests can also see their current stay and find their way around the property.

### Why design for app and website together?

Guests move between the two. A journey that starts on the website and continues in the app should feel like one experience, with the same look, language, and account.
